EXCERPT FROM THE STUDY
According to Azuka & Oyaziwo (2018), the first publicly reported case of examination malpractice in Nigeria occurred in the year 1914 when there was a leakage of examination question papers in the senior Cambridge local examination. Ever since then, as stated by the West African Examination Council, in 2004, there have been numerous cases of irregularities reported on a yearly basis of which the outstanding years were 1963, 1967, 1970, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1996,1997, 1998, 19999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. The issue of examination malpractice has tainted the educational system and knows no bounds, as students, teachers, and even lecturers and governing bodies have all participated in this heinous crime. This has become the biggest challenge to the legitimacy and efficacy of any examination, and therefore to the authenticity and acceptance of any certificate given.
